Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles using Pulse Electrolysis in 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium Chloride Ionic Liquid

Ionic liquids are considered as a promising, alternative solvent for the electrochemical synthesis of metals because their high thermal and chemical stability, relatively ionic conductivity, wide window. In particular, window enables electrodeposition without any side reaction electrolytes such hydrogen evolution. The silver is conducted in 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([C4mim]Cl) liquid system with source AgCl. This study first attempt to electrodeposit nanoparticles using co-solvents other than [C4mim]Cl. Pulse electrolysis employed by varying applied potentials from −3.0 V −4.5 (<italic>vs</italic>. Pt-quasi reference electrode) pulse duration 0.1 s 0.7 s. Accordingly, whose size ranges 15 nm ~100 obtained. successful preparation demonstrated regardless kinds substrate including aluminum, stainless steel, carbon paper electrolysis. Finally, antimicrobial property electrodeposited confirmed an test Staphylococcus aureus.
